RPCS3 Setup & Configuration Guide

Getting Started

This guide is split into two sections. First, we provide a universal script to automatically install RPCS3 across all major Linux distributions (including Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora, Arch Linux, and CachyOS).

In the second section, we will walk you through configuring the emulator step-by-step so you can start booting your games.

1. Automated Installation

Run the following command in your terminal to automatically download the latest RPCS3 AppImage, configure its shortcut, and set up the desktop application menu icon:

bash
curl -sSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/rmuxnet/ps5-linux-guide/main/docs/public/scripts/rpcs3/rpcs3.sh | bash

2. Configuring The Emulator

Step I : First Launch Of Rpcs3

Upon launching the emulator for the first time, a welcome window will appear. To proceed, please check the box indicating you have read the Quickstart guide and enable the desktop shortcut option. We also recommend unchecking "Show at Startup" for a cleaner launch experience in the future. Additionally, you can optionally enable Dark Mode here to match your system preferences.

To play games on RPCS3, you will need to back up your own legal PlayStation 3 game discs or digital purchases.

For an step-by-step guide on how to properly dump your physical media using a compatible PC Blu-ray drive or a jailbroken PS3 console, refer to the official documentation:

  • Add launcher shortcut(s): Check this to add the game to your Linux system applications menu.
  • Add Steam shortcut(s): Check this if you want to launch this PS3 game directly through your Steam library layout (perfect for handhelds or controller-focused setups).
